Introducing...The 2008 Santa Barbara

International Orchid Show!

ORCHID FEVER!!

POS Members attended the

2008 Santa Barbara Orchid Show

at the Earl Warren Fairgrounds and

present you with our favorites

from of the show!

The show was spectacular!!

Our own POS trustee, Betty Reid,

(above) enjoyed the show too!

It was well attended even on the Sunday when we were there.

POS President, Gil Ho and 1st VP, John Kidwell were also hanging out there (see below).  What better place to be!

"The POS Prez," Gil Ho next to Laelia anceps display.

"The POS 1st VP," John Kidwell with trays in hand.

(Probably blue orchids!)

Our own members, Loren and Nancy Batchman of Casa de las Orquideas (above left and right), who are prominent growers and hybridizers of colorful cymbidiums for Southern California climates, put up a remarkable display at the SB Show.

The color and variety of Loren and Nancy's display was stunning!  It won several awards and was admired by all.

Great stuff!!

The theme was "Orchid Fever," but the order of the day was definitely big and bold displays.  Above was an incredible Laelia anceps display from SB Orchid Estate.  Big phalenopsis displays were also everywhere (below 2 photos).

Also, rows and rows of paphiopedilum

orchids graced the show.  Check out these

cool little complex paphs above!

Can you believe this Laelia anceps specimen

from Cal Orchid??  Hey!! How many spikes

are there on this thing?

Closeup of the same anceps specimen plant.

It's absolutely incredible. (The dinosaur in the back

isn't bad either!)
