SDCOS Spring Orchid Show
Event Date:
Fri, 03/18/2022 - 3:00pm - Sun, 03/20/2022 - 4:00pm
The Palomar Orchid Society is participating in our sister societies orchid show by entering a display as we have done in previous years. If you are interested in participating in the planning for the display, set up, take down or just providing plants for display, please contact Alex or Bill at your earliest convenience. If you just want to participate in the show by submitting your plants for the display or for the show in general, Debby Halliday of SDCOS has made it easy for you to enter your submissions by providing tags for the plants entered in the show. This makes it easier for both the submitters and the show organizers, Please refer to the following info from Debby for those who want to submit plants in the show.
See here for details on the opening and closing times for each day.
Pre-Registration for Spring Show Plants
by Debby Halliday:
The Spring Show starts March 18. We are again going to use a pre-registration system for your plants, just as we did last October. It turned out to be super helpful in laying out our classes and sections on the tables. It will matter even more at the Spring Show. As always, we will provide blank tags for you to put on your plants. When you pre-register, we will also have a set of pre-printed labels all ready for you to put on the tags when you arrive.
On the Monday before the show, March 14, we will be emailing everyone a Plant Registration Form (available on the POS website). The form asks for your name and also the section, class, and name of each plant you plan to bring to the show and whether it is a hanging plant or part of a display. It includes a link to the SDCOS webpage where you can download the Schedule to determine the section and class for each plant.
If the plant you wish to enter is part of a display or is a hanging plant, please check the box for Hanging or Display, as you will need an extra tag to put on the table in the normal class for your plant. Here is how it works.
- Look up the Section Number and Class Letter for each plant in the Schedule. Type these into the form. (If you are unsure of the correct section or class, just leave it blank and we’ll fill it in at the show.)
- Type in the full plant name. If your plant doesn’t have a registered name, then just list the Genus plus Hybrid. (e.g. Cattleya Hybrid)
- If it is a hanging plant or in a display put an X into the Hanging or Display column. I will create two labels for the plant.
- Attach the registration form to email and send it to president@sdorchids.com OR type the information directly into the email just as it appears on the form.
- I will prepare a sheet of preprinted labels for you to use when you bring in your plants.
- Stick a label on the tag for each plant - white for Amateur, green for Open, add your name to the tag, and attach it to the plant. Quick and easy!
If you prefer to make up labels at home in advance, please fill out the Registration form and note at the bottom that you want to print your own. I will email you a sheet of labels ready to print on Avery 8160 address labels. You can just print the labels and complete your tags as above.
If you find a plant that you forgot to register, bring it anyway. We welcome every plant. You will just have to fill out the tags by hand when you arrive. Thank you in advance for using our new system and for bringing in your beauties to share with everyone.
Registration times Thursday, Mar 17, 3pm – 8pm, Friday, Mar 18, 7:30am – 9am.
